There are some file formats supported on one platform, but not on the other. Please refer to the complete list of file formats supported to make sure your version of DeBabelizer Pro supports the file formats you need.
Windows features not yet available on Macintosh include: Command line scripting (AppleScript provides the same functionality on Macintosh), support for Digimarc digital watermarking, Photoshop Plug-Ins support, and FTP support.

- Is there a version of DeBabelizer that runs on UNIX-based machines?
Equilibrium is not currently shipping any DeBabelizer Unix product. Equilibrium is not discounting the Unix OS as a viable market for future versions of DeBabelizer.
- Can I use DeBabelizer Pro with Photoshop?
DeBabelizer Pro's ActionArrows make it easy to use with Photoshop. First, launch both programs and tile the windows so they are next to each other on screen. Next, create a BatchList in DeBabelizer Pro that contains the images you want to work with. We recommend you work with duplicate copies of these images if you want to avoid overwriting the originals. Now drag the ActionArrow from the BatchList window onto the Photoshop window, and the images open in Photoshop. Perform the desired operations on the images in Photoshop, then save them out with the same file name and to the same directory or folder as the originals or duplicates. Finally, return to DeBabelizer Pro and perform any scripts or Batch Automation operations desired on your BatchList.
- I modified and saved an image in DeBabelizer Pro. Why was it unchanged when I reopened the image?
Usually when this occurs it is because the image has been saved with a different file name or to a different folder, and the original picture is being re-opened again. One way to determine which file is being opened is to check the dates of the files and make sure you are opening the one that was just saved. Check the Save As dialog box for the destination of the saved file, and the Naming Options for the file name that's used.
- What factors must be considered in trying to reduce an image's file size?
The file size of any bitmap graphics file is a function of five factors:
- The number of pixels (height and width)
- The number of colors
- The file format the image uses
- The form (if any) and amount of compression used
- The complexity of the image's subject matter
With all these factors, it's not possible to predict what will work for your particular situation, but DeBabelizer Pro gives you control over all these factors except the last.
o Create "Automator Action Packs" within DeBabelizer
o Easily create reusable Droplets for client and server Workflows
o Monitored Hot Folders expedite processing
o Render beautiful anti-aliased text overlays
o Powerful IF/ELSE conditional Workflow functionality
o Reads Adobe® Photoshop® layered files
You can create, customize, and save Workflows and then reuse them, or edit them for other projects or graphic types, and apply these Workflows to images and animations, as well as any Batches or folders containing these file types or a text file containing references to these file types. If you are running Mac® OS X (v10.4 Tiger), you can utilize Action packs, which are Automator-ready, external Workflow files that can be used as Actions in Automator.
For platform-specific product features, read the DeBabalizer Datasheet
With all these factors, it's not possible to predict what will work for your particular situation, but DeBabelizer Pro 6 gives you control over all these factors except the last. Try experimenting with these variables to determine what produces the smallest acceptable file for your images.
- Is there a version of DeBabelizer that runs on UNIX-based machines?
Equilibrium is not currently shipping any DeBabelizer UNIX product; however, we are not discounting the UNIX OS as a viable market for future versions of DeBabelizer.
- Is DeBabelizer key server aware, for use on a network?
DeBabelizer Pro 6 is not a networked application, and a separate copy and unique license number must be installed on every local machine. The license agreement prohibits running the product over a network; it is licensed for single-machine use only. Attempting to run DeBabelizer Pro 6 from the network may cause all machines accessing the program to freeze.
- Can you tell me how to connect computers for transferring image files?
DeBabelizer Pro only reads and writes graphic files, and does not have any way of transferring files. For this reason, and because there are many ways to transfer files between platforms, Equilibrium does not provide instructions for this type of task. Solutions include networks and null-modem cables. We recommend that you talk with your network manager or hardware and software vendors.
- How can I import scripts/workflows from a previous version?
You should be able to import most resources stored in a preferences file generated by a previous version of DeBabelizer Pro by choosing File > Resources > Import. It is possible that the file you are attempting to import may have been corrupted somehow. This is a common problem with preference files - especially if you are running different versions of DeBabelizer Pro on the same computer, or passing a preferences file between computers to use with different versions of DeBabelizer Pro (rather than exporting and importing the resources stored in the file). When DeBabelizer Pro imports resources from a preferences file, it ignores anything questionable or unreadable.
You may be able to recover the resources by using the file to launch an older version of DeBabelizer Pro, exporting them to a new preferences file, and then importing them into DeBabelizer Pro 6. After you've saved and loaded all the scripts/workflows, batches, palettes, and catalog styles you need, remove the old software applications and the old preferences file from your system.
- When are you going to allow me to change the Mac on which I can run DeBabelizer Pro, like Director and other products do?
You are allowed to install a single DeBabelizer Pro License on up to two machines. DeBabelizer Pro is sold under the terms of an End User License Agreement where the purchaser, or designated user, is the only person licensed to use the software. Soon, DeBabelizer Pro will include an "un-register" function that will decrement the license automatically so that you can move the software to another computer. For now, please send an email to support@equilibrium.com, if you would like to de-install your software on a specific machine. If you provide the registered user name and phone number, we can disable the machine for you.
- Why does DeBabelizer Pro crash intermittently?
There are several things you can try to prevent this problem.
- MEMORY
One thing that may help is increasing the amount of memory installed on your computer.
- PREFERENCES
The preferences file is another possible cause. Without launching DeBabelizer Pro, move the DeBabelizer 6 Preferences file (from Library/Preferences) to the Desktop. Then launch DeBabelizer Pro and try to duplicate the problem. If the problem is gone, it was probably due to a corrupt preferences file. You can import the resources from the old preferences file into DeBabelizer (File > Import/Export DeBabelizer Resources > Import) to retain the workflows, palettes, batches, and catalog styles you created, then discard the preferences file on the Desktop.
- MISCELLANEOUS
If the problem returns and it involves a workflow, there are a few more things you can try. First, check the settings in your workflow, or try creating a new workflow (instead of editing the old one) and see if that fixes the problem. If this fails, choose DeBabelizer Pro > Preferences > Set Factory Default Prefs (to revert to the default settings), create a new workflow, and try again. |
